Young Money Matters Summit | Tuesday, April 4th
Nashville Public Library • 9am-1pm
To kick-off Financial Literacy Month, Knowledge Bank and the Nashville Public Library are hosting the Young Money Matters #finLIT Summit. Financial literacy is the ladder between youth and their dreams!
What is the Young Money Matters Summit?

Financial statistics about Americans tell a startling story that entail low personal savings rates, lack of accountability and very little upward economic mobility. However, an opportunity of colossal proportion exists through the economic empowerment of our youth. Sound money management is a core life skill and deserves just as much attention as college preparedness, career planning and creating a healthy lifestyle. Financial education provides pride, security and breaks the cycle of poverty. Most importantly, financial education helps students realize their inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. A financially literate society benefits every individual and institution in this country.

The Financial Empowerment Summit for Youth is an annual day of financial education for 9th and 10th graders. During the summit, students will learn core financial principles and have the opportunity to win prizes for various collaborative projects and competitions.

Young Money Matters Summit Agenda
Paychecks and Playchecks

The Paychecks and Playchecks simulation is designed to give students hands-on experience managing a household budget. During this group activity, teams will receive a flawed budget which they must revise to reach a financial goal and obtain the highest net worth. The breakout sessions are designed to prepare the teams to make the most financially-beneficial decisions.

Breakout Sessions:
#MoneyFit

The #MoneyFit breakout session teaches students the core behaviors for being financially responsible. These behaviors include maximizing your earnings potential, creating financial plans, saving and giving.

#OwnMore

The #OwnMore breakout session focuses on the elements for calculating net worth. Students will learn the difference between an asset and a liability and they’ll understand the risk associated with debt.

Career and Entrepreneurship Panel

The Career and Entrepreneurship Panel will include successful professionals and business owners who will share their paths to success. Students will be given the opportunity to ask questions directly to the panel.
